03/03/14 Victor Norlander On Shooting Dior Homme S/S 2014

“It was probably the easiest and fastest shoot I’ve ever done—we were done in less than two hours,” says model Victor Norlander of shooting Dior Homme’s Spring/Summer 2014 campaign with Karl Lagerfeld. A month prior, Norlander had met the designer-cum-lensman at his studio in Paris. “He was in the middle of a photo shoot with Willow Smith—her whole family was with her. He took a break from the shoot to talk and take some photos with me,” Norlander says of the Kaiser, who wound up being “an extremely friendly and spontaneous man.” Himself affable enough to step aside from work for a little chat, the New York-based model answers a few questions for NOUS.

Where do you hail from?

I’m from Lidköping in the “South” of Sweden. It’s pretty small but nice. I miss my family and friends there.

Any career highlights thus far?

My first season in Paris back in 2009 made me come to Milan and walk exclusive for Trussardi. After that, I got a big spread in L’Officiel Hommes Paris that made my entire book for that time and lead to my first campaign for Sisley, shot with Camilla Åkarns in the desert of Cape Town, South Africa.

Any favorite place your job has brought you to?

Besides the desert in Cape Town for Sisley, a huge mansion in the Hamptons for Gant SS13.

Tell us about your current neighborhood. Where do you usually grab a bite?

I currently live in Chelsea—it’s close to everything. They just opened up a great diner around the corner from my apartment. They have really great food and drinks. I usually go for their green plate special or their fish and chips on days I want to please myself. It’s called the Empire Diner.

Listening to any good music lately?

Rhye, Laleh, Rihanna, Alex Clare—and Chet Baker, of course.
