02/25/14 Thomas Lohr On His Top Photo Shoots

A regular contributor to i-D and Fantastic Man, London-based photographer Thomas Lohr has cultivated a stark aesthetic, where either a face or fabric can look both immaculate and severe. In portraits of designers such as Christopher Kane or a lookbook photographed for Raf Simons’s pre-fall collection last year, Lohr’s work is almost Gattacan in nature, reflecting tensions between midcentury conservatism and modern minimalism. “I love the Modernism movement in architecture,” he says, rattling off legends like Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius, and Oscar Niemeyer as influences, as well as someone a little closer to home. “I think the person that influenced me most in the last few years is my ex-girlfriend Hanna Putz. She is a great artist and I respect her opinion a lot.”

Lohr, a recent inductee into the Business of Fashion 500 list, shares his most memorable photo shoots to date.
