  • THE SPIRALS WILL PLAY SUBCULTURE LIVE CEBU ON NOVEMBER 11 AT FRED PERRY, AYALA CENTER CEBU

10/28/16 Fred Perry Presents: Subculture Live Cebu – The Spirals

In 1950s England, nothing screamed nonconformity more than all-night raving at the club and donning the Laurel Wreath just above your heart. The rebellious nature of those youth cultures expanded globally and continues to live today through Fred Perry and their Subculture Series. This November, the brand that sparked a riot is bringing the noise to Visayas with artists who diverge from the mainstream. Included in this line-up is homegrown post-punk band The Spirals. Their turbulent sound will send you spinning and swaying at Fred Perry, Ayala Center Cebu on November 11th, along with Dr. Banana and Who’s Next.
But before taking the Subculture stage for a spin, the band talks to NOUS about the concoction of sounds that influenced their music.

Where are you from?

“We are all from Cebu but our other guitarist is a transplanted 30-something from Bataan. ”

Describe your sound in three words.

“Uneasy acerbic pop.”

What is the first song you played on repeat?

“Hell Is Around the Corner” by Tricky

Which British music icons inspired your sound today?

“It’s really a concoction since some members like Black Sabbath, some are really into Coldplay; while some still continue to listen to Joy Division and The Fall.”

How should your music be listened to?

“With both hands covering one’s ears.”
